Robert Thompson – Your Labour Candidate for Kilburn By-Election

I’m Robert Thompson and I’m standing to be your councillor in Kilburn on Thursday 5 September.

I have lived and worked in Kilburn for the last six years. As Vicar of St Mary’s, Abbey Road, I have first-hand experience of the challenges that residents of Kilburn experience due to the cost of living and housing crises that fourteen years of Tory government has given us. As Chair of the Sherriff Centre I have responded to this by starting Foodbank, Food-Share and Garden projects as well as prioritising local young people as employees.

Originally form the north of Ireland, and a migrant to London, I have enormous love for the diversity of the local area and a passion to challenge all extremism and hate crime. In my role as a governor of St Mary’s School, Quex Road, with many students from a huge range of backgrounds, I have been proactive in promoting community cohesion amidst cultural differences.

Previously I served as a councillor in Kensington and Chelsea and was Chair of the Grenfell Recovery Scrutiny Committee, making sure rehousing was swift and appropriate and long-term psychological care was put in place for the bereaved.

I will be a strong voice on council to promote Camden Labour values of better housing, education and health for all the people of Kilburn and to help keep our communities united, tolerant, open, safe clean and welcoming of all.

Robert’s Five Point Plan for Kilburn

  • Sorting out housing repairs on our estates, improving the service and holding housing associations to account.
  • Making Kilburn greener with more funding for trees, cycle hangars and greener travel measures on our streets.
  • Supporting improvements to our high streets, with a safer and cleaner Kilburn High Road and West End Lane.
  • Clamping down on antisocial behaviour in our community with upgraded CCTV rolled out on our housing estates.
  • Helping residents through the cost of living crisis through our Council Tax Support Scheme and other grants.
